What mistakes should you avoid?

Fake timers that reset for every visitor. The FTC's 2022 staff report on dark patterns names false countdown timers as a deceptive design.

Keeping the widget live after the deadline; set the schedule end date.

Hiding what happens when the timer ends. Say it.

Countdown timer popup questions

Is the countdown the same for every visitor?

Yes. It counts down to the end date and time you set, so every visitor sees the same real deadline.

Are countdown timers legal?

Timers for real deadlines are fine. Fake urgency, such as a timer that restarts for each visitor, is called out as a deceptive dark pattern in the FTC staff report "Bringing Dark Patterns to Light" (September 2022). Use real dates.

What happens when the timer reaches zero?

Set the widget's schedule to stop showing at the deadline so visitors never see an expired offer.

Can I collect emails with the countdown?

Yes, that is what the collector field is for. Leads go to the Data tab and to any alert channels you connect.

Can I use it without collecting emails?

The countdown collector is built around a field. If you only want an announcement, use the announcement popup and mention the deadline in text.

Which time zone does it use?

The end time is stored by the app and the visitor sees the remaining time, so the moment of expiry is the same worldwide.

Can I show it only on the sales page?

Yes, with page targeting, and only during the launch with the schedule.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, with separate mobile and desktop visibility and any of 13 positions.
